Sara Hassells post

1. Alexander the great was great for many reasons. He has a good education, he was taught geography, literature and science by Aristotle. He also had military training that consisted of commanding troops, riding horses, and weapon use. He became king at age 20 and was able to use the military training he got when Thebes rebelled. When they rebelled the city was destroyed and 6,000 Thebans were killed anyone who survived was sold into slavery. Alexander showed he had power through this incident, that’s why after this happened all the other city states stopped any ideas or plans of rebellion due to fear. Alexander was also great because when he invaded Persia he was out number by at least 5,000 men and he won. In Egypt he was crowned pharaoh.

2. Alexander has done wonders for our culture! He has set up colonies and built Cities while spreading Greek culture. I'm very happy that he is letting Greeks rule their own land. Greek is becoming more and more popular to speak. I think the Persian customs and style is beautiful. Now that both of our cultures are blended we are called Hellenistic. Our education is becoming great we have some very smart people. My friend Aristarchus was telling me he thinks the sun is 300 times bigger than the earth. He was also telling me about his friend Archimedes and how he is estimating the bale of pi. And one of my very good friends Euclid and how he wrote a book called Elements, it's about geometry. I'm very happy about what Alexander is doing.

3. Alexander the Great can be compared to a lot of people. There is one person that stands out to me, because they thought they were great but they weren't. Adolf Hitler thought he was great. He got a large number of people thinking he was great. Alexander the Great was very close to conquering the world, something Hitler wanted to do. Alexander tried to blend cultures together while Hitler discriminated against Jewish people. Both Alexander the Great and Hitler wanted to be great. Alexander did great things, while Hitler didn't do that many great things.

  1. I loved how you said that both Alexander and Hitler wanted to be great. It made me think of these two men as real people and actually, for once, I thought about what they wanted for themselves. I got a feel of how they felt, even though the two men were 'great' in the wrong way. (If only they knew that doing mass murdering never lead to being great people) Good job!

  2. I really like how for question one, you started saying how Alexander was great before he was even leader. I never really thought about how an education could effect someone in that way. I also liked you comparison to Hitler, as Ana said. I never thought they were alike in more than one way until I read that.
